KÜSTE – Gemeinsame Waldpolitiken im Ostseeraum

Forest conservation and expansion

How can forest expansion in Germany be effectively promoted – what tricks and
strategies can be used to create more forested areas?
This seminar examines current challenges in forest conservation and discusses the
debate surrounding financial support versus reforestation. The perspective is
complemented by experiences from the Baltic Sea region, particularly Denmark, to
explore cross-border approaches and perspectives.

Referent: Prof. Dr. Justus Eberl -  FH Erfurt

PEFC, FSC etc. – How does certification support the timber trade?

Certification standards such as PEFC and FSC play a central role in the timber
trade, but how do the approaches differ in Sweden, Germany, and the other Baltic
Sea countries? This seminar examines the various standards and discusses the
benefits—but also the limitations—of certification from a consumer perspective.
The aim is to clarify how certificates promote trade and what challenges still exist.

Referenten: Maja Drca, PEFC EU REPRESENTATIVE
Clare Coleman, FSC Regional Director Europe
Thomas Goebel, Geschäftsführer GD Holz e. V.
